The health policy specialist works with the Director, Health Policy to provide regulatory and payment policy analysis and supports the work of the Academy and ophthalmology representatives ('Advisors') to the CPT and RUC committees and the RUC survey process. This individual contributes to members education, practice and outreach by coordinating interactions with Medicare and commercial payers on policy issues and Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee members. Responsibilities: Coordinates the logistics of RUC surveys and special projects related to payment policy, physician reimbursement and other health policy issues. Assists the Director with the AMA RUC surveys and CPT Attend RUC, PEAC and CPT meetings as needed. Facilitates and coordinates public reporting issues including Physician Compare website. Primary staff working with our physician leaders on ICD-10 submissions. Attend meetings/briefings related to payment and other health policy issues and provide summaries and overviews. Researches, analyzes and maintains numerical and statistical data, including payment and utilization data, regarding ophthalmology services in the health care systems for purposes of policy advocacy. Works with the Director and Vice President to prepare calculations and other information based on available data. Respond to requests from specialties, State societies and State Affairs, practice management, and Clinical Education on utilization and payment policymatters Medicare program and other Coordinates response to requests for review of third-party payer ophthalmic policies by researching issues and working with Health Policy Committee and Clinical Education Department on drafting final response. Coordinates the Academy's Carrier Advisor Committee initiates and manages relationships with ophthalmology ie, CAC representatives as well as participates with AMA and other related payment policy list-serves/coalitions. Initially prepares materials, articles and issue summaries and/or works with Academy communications staff on newsletters, Committee and Board meetings, and reviews, updates and posts information on webpage in coordination with the Director. Supports the development of educational and communications information for the Academy and specialty memberships regarding relevant policies and procedures; assists with member education activities around these Respond to member inquiries, research specific reimbursement issues and other health policy issues, and provide requested data and analysis. Generalizable solutions will be written up for dissemination to appropriate Academy members. Coordinates with administrative staff in DC and San Francisco to organize and prepare for the annual Health Policy Committee meeting and the periodic Carrier Advisory Committee meetings. Work with Director and Quality/HIT Manager to finalize agenda and prepare meeting materials.
