Summary

Serves as a senior Aerospace Engineer in the Thermal Engineering Branch of the Mechanical Systems Division, which is responsible for thermal engineering for all flight programs managed by the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). The incumbent is an internationally recognized authority in the field of advanced thermal control technology.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an expert consultant and authority in the field of heat transfer.
  • Plan and perform analytical studies in the field of heat transfer.
  • Expert in thermal design and thermal analysis.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction for advanced thermal technological studies and analysis.
  • Conducts special studies and analysis development of two-phase thermal systems, studying radiation, convection, and conduction heating of solids
  • Directs and conducts special studies and analysis that significantly impact the development of two-phase thermal systems and lead to major modifications or important extensions of current practices and resolve key problems facing the program.
  • Contributes new thermal technological designs or techniques which open the way for further developments or are regarded as major advances.
  • Initiates thermal system study efforts, monitors study and evaluates study results for conclusions affecting overall systems.
  • Conduct contractor over-site to assess development efforts, need for modifications, need for realignment or redirection of efforts.
  • Provides technical oversight, evaluation, consultation and support to vital flight projects, payload and/or instrument development, design review teams, failure analysis teams, technical evaluation panels and source evaluation panels.

Qualifications

Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Specialized experience is defined as providing technical leadership in the thermal design, analysis, development and testing of spacecraft, payloads, instruments and/or thermal technology including two-phase thermal systems.

Education

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position. You must indicate your major as well as your degree in order to receive full consideration.
