Responsibilities

This Physical Security Specialist position is located in the Physical Security Section, Security and Administrative Services (SSA), Enterprise Support (ES), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If selected for this position, you will be responsible for designing and installing security systems while providing field support as an expert to over 446 TSA locations and over 700+ facilities nationwide. Duties include:
  • Performing as a Senior Physical Security Specialist (PSS) providing limited oversight, guidance and technical expertise to lower-level specialists. Researches and develops cost/benefit analyses and advises decision-makers so that appropriate, cost-effective actions are taken with the best value to the Government while ensuring the safety and security of both thousands of TSA employees and the public.
  • Managing high-level projects and collaboration among key stakeholders and contractors for physical security field support security enhancement projects (e.g., with Federal Security Directors (FSDs), Regional Director Offices, TSA Coordination Centers, Internal Affairs Offices and Global Strategies, etc.)
  • Collaborating with the TSA Field Real Estate Services (FRES) to effectively manage system installations to protect both TSA employees and highly sensitive US Government facilities. Identifies and assigns other PSS assets to projects as needed.
  • Coordinating rough-ins with facility architects, engineers, and Airport Authority staff. Inspects construction build-outs, oversees and/or performs installation of physical security equipment, and conducts on-site inspection/acceptance testing of TSA facilities to ensure installations have been done properly and meet physical security requirements.

Qualifications

To qualify for the SV-J Pay Band (equivalent to GS-14), you must have one year of specialized experience at the SV-I or GS-13 in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:
  • Experience with the following security disciplines: Access Control, Physical Security, Locks, CCTV and information systems security in order to identify physical security vulnerabilities; AND
  • Developing physical security access control and security plans in accordance with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations including Homeland Security Presidential Directive HPSD-12; AND
  • Experience with Physical Security equipment installation, inspection and troubleshooting (e.g. locking hardware, system circuitry, alarm and video installations) in order to implement security procedures.

NOTE: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.
