Works to support assigned school health program sites. Utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, Public Health Nurses provide a variety of health services to diverse populations within the school community. Health services and interventions include outreach (home/school visits), community assessment, care coordination, case finding, disease prevention, health promotion and school health program development for students, families, and communities. Ideal candidates possess strong working knowledge of computers and technology to collect data, disseminate information and communicate findings across the program. Responsible for participating in the training, supervision and evaluation of paraprofessionals in a school health room setting.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing education with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus one year of work experience in a public health/community health setting; or two years of full-time post-licensure experience as a nurse in an equivalent health care setting whose focus was primarily prevention services and community education.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Possession of current license or a multi-state licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia;
AED-Required to be obtained within one year of appointment
CPR -Required to be obtained within one year of appointment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates will have experience providing health services to school aged children in ethnically diverse populations. Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with students, parents and colleagues. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners. Position requires candidates to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications. Preferred candidates will have at least one year of direct supervisory experience of paraprofessional staff or have demonstrated work experience monitoring and directing the work of others.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background investigation, a Child Protective Services (CPS) check, a driving record check, and a sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
