Job Announcement

Assists in managing the library services of a Regional Library. Acts as the person in charge as needed. Assists patrons of all ages in locating reading materials and information. May assist in the creation and coordination of programs and activities for community groups and the public. Advises readers on library materials for leisure reading as well as for reference. This position works under the direction of the Regional Branch Manager.

Note: The annual offer rate will not exceed the midpoint (or $69,073.47) of the advertised compensation range.

Answers informational and reference questions from customers using print and electronic resources;
Assists and instructs customers in the use of print and online materials and technology;
Advises and assists customers in the selection of books, periodicals, media, and other materials;
Plans and provides programs and outreach to customers of all ages;
Maintains collection by weeding, marketing, and merchandising library materials;
Troubleshoots library computers and reports unresolved problems through proper channels;
Performs copy cataloging of library materials;
Identifies materials to be considered for addition to the library collection;
Remains current in resources, services and technologies in the information field;
May supervise volunteers;
May serve as person in charge.

Employment Standards

Graduation from college with a master's degree from an ALA accredited library school, or completion of coursework towards a master's degree from an ALA accredited library school.

Possession of a certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for Certification of Librarians within (3) three months of date of appointment to the position.

Experience working in a library setting. Strong customer services skills. Demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic book reading devices and basic knowledge of e-book downloading procedures. Experience in planning and providing programs and outreach to adults.

The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and Child Protective Services Registry check.

Must be able to lift books weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to input, access and retrieve information from a computer, stoop, bend, reach. Ability to push and pull full 4 wheeled book carts and book bins. Ability to be physically active for three hours at a time. Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist and shoulder movements. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
