Job Announcement

This ad may be used to fill multiple positions. Seeking a reliable, well-organized individual with a dynamic professional attitude to serve as an active member of the Employment and Training team. The successful applicant must be an active listener, adaptable, and able to handle dueling priorities with a focus on efficiency and customer service. The position will require a flexible professional, ready and willing to take on different roles and tasks depending on office and program needs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Determining eligibility for specialized programs, recruiting and pre-screening eligible participants, and coordinating referred services with partner programs.
  • Providing ongoing, intensive case management and follow-up services.
  • Providing job development services for various employment and training programs.
  • Developing community partnerships and addressing barriers to employment through education and training services.
  • Assessing occupational skills and support service needs and effectively communicating with customers and staff.
  • Developing and delivering job readiness training curriculum and career competency workshops and providing support to the local One-Stop Employment Centers, to include the Virginia Career Works Centers.
  • Participation in job fairs and related activities requires some evening and/or weekend work.
  • Some local travel is required.

Note: Location varies depending on the needs of the department at One-Stop Employment Centers throughout Northern Virginia in the counties of Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree plus two years of human services or related professional work experience.

Contingent upon the area of assignment, some positions within this class may require specific certification(s) prior to employment and/or the ability to acquire necessary certification(s) within a specified time period following employment. The certifications are identified in the position description and employment advertisement .

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Virginia Workforce Development Professional Certification (Required within 12 months of appointment).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Some positions may require a driver's license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to work with clients and community service providers outside the office.
  • Some positions may require oral and written bilingual competency in English and a target or preferred second language.
  • The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, performance measures, and quality standards governing federal workforce programs, to include the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and the ability to apply them correctly.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, health, and cultural factors that can serve as barriers to employment.
  • Knowledge of labor market conditions and job development techniques.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with process improvement strategies, data management and the Virginia Workforce Connection.
  • Certified Virginia Workforce Development Professional (VWDP) or National Workforce Development Professional (NWDP).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Vietnamese, and/or Korean.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to use automated technology. Ability to travel throughout the area. Sufficiently mobile to work with clients and employers. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
