Job Announcement

Position available in the Trouble Response Center - Evening Shift Evening Shift reports 1:00pm - 9:30pm, Monday thru Friday.

Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required in the operation and preventive maintenance of a mechanical truck-mounted rodder, combination flusher vacuum truck (the latter of which is heavy equipment) and tanker truck. Performs visual inspection of sewer manholes and lines, identifying defects and executing cleaning requirements. Uses other equipment that includes trailer-mounted pumps, camera poles, crash cushion trailers, and camera-flusher units. Acts as field lead for a team of two to five employees directly responsible for performing and completing inspections and maintenance activities inside of Fairfax County. Uses laptops and desktop computers to utilize asset management systems with County GIS to create, edit and complete assigned work orders. Responds to Sanitary Sewer emergencies, including backups, overflows, sewer related service calls, and other duties as assigned. In the absence of the Environmental Service Supervisor, may supervise subordinate staff and perform supervisory tasks. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Services Supervisor.

Note: Works in inclement weather and during emergencies.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade, and three years of experience operating motorized construction equipment and/or semi-tractor trailers, as appropriate.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Participation in or completion of Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP) or Line Assessment Certification Program (LACP).
  • Possession of any of the following certifications: Advanced Traffic Control; confined Space Entry, A Virginia Flagger Certification.
  • A commercial driver's license class "B" with tanker endorsement is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Appointees within this classification are subject to a pre-employment physical, driving record check and criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer prior to employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Five years of work experience in the wastewater field operating wastewater equipment.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience using computers systems related to Microsoft Office, GIS, and asset management programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to walk on uneven ground such as hills, wooded and marshy areas. Must be capable of climbing/crouching in confined areas. Ability to lift/slide up to 90 pounds with assistance. Ability to enter into permitted confined spaces with weight restriction of 310 pounds. Duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
