ALIVE Chess/Strategic Games Instructor – Part-time
MAEC was founded in 1991, as an education non-profit dedicated to increasing access to equitable educational opportunities so all students can learn and achieve at high levels. Its mission is to promote excellence and equity in education to achieve social justice.
Achievement Linking Innovation, Vision, and Engagement (ALIVE) is a 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school program under MAEC, funded through the Maryland State Department of Education. MAEC is looking for a dynamic instructor to teach and use Chess and other strategic games to improve students’ overall reasoning and communication skills. ALIVE operates this after-school program at Col E. Brooke Lee Middle School, in Montgomery County, Maryland. This is a temporary position (November 2019 – June 2020). The program will provide academic and enrichment activities for 25 students grades 6-9.
- Conduct chess and other strategic games instruction for students for one hour of instruction three (3) times per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays) on program days from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Engage parents and families to participate to promote use of these games at home to help promote their children’s achievement and overall success.
- Certified chess instructor.
- Experience working in chess instruction at the elementary or secondary levels.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a part-time position that pays $40 per hour.
