About the Position: The Institute of Heraldry mission is to research, design, develop, standardize, symbolic items; seals, decorations medals, insignia, badges flags and other items awarded to or authorized for official wear or display for the Armed Forces and other U.S. government organizations. This position with the Institute of Heraldry is located at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Responsibilities

• Conduct heraldic research, conside military echelons with applicable heraldic entitlements.
• Match prescribed colors, superior drawing and design skills, professional precision.
• Determine dimension and scale development and/or manufacturing drawings.
• Utilize artistic skill in preparing highly finished illustrations in line and in color.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes:
Utilizing computer graphics software programs; applying illustration concepts for the purpose of planning or producing a variety of products; writing accurate blazons in heraldic language; and translating history or honor accomplishments into a heraldic design.

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, appropriate history or scientific subjects, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment.

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
