Duties

Summary

Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay).

Candidate will participate in clinical and surgical practices and will specifically teach ophthalmology residents rotating at Hampton VAMC from Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) Ophthalmology Residency Program. Work with the EYE Clinic team which consists of Ophthalmology, Optometry, Intermediate Low Vision and Teleretinal Section.

Responsibilities

-Performs comprehensive eye exam evaluations, eye surgeries, lasers and emergency coverage.
-Train EVMS Ophthalmology Residents and works effectively with Surgical Service, Anesthesiology Section, Operating Room/Recovery Room Team.
-Candidate is expected to have an academic appointment with EVMS commensurate with experience, to be determined by the affiliate.
-Accountable to the Chief, Eye Care and Chief, Surgical Service, for assuring the most effective delivery of care in Ophthalmology Section while meeting or exceeding compliance standards.
-Performs other directly related duties as required.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00AM - 4:30PM) Weekends, evenings and Holidays as needed.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/27/2020.

Preferred Experience:
-Board-certified in Ophthalmology is highly preferred, with sub-specialty training and experience in training Ophthalmology residents in eye surgery.
-Demonstrated interest in academic pursuits is preferable.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent needs to be mobile in that the job requires, sitting, walking, standing and bending. Work requires trips daily from employee's work-site to other areas throughout the Medical Center

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
