The Associate Vice President of Risk Mitigation position is responsible for the daily activities of the Warranty Service Support Representatives and Claims Department. This includes administration of incoming homeowner calls and written communication related to the Home Builder's Limited Warranty, the Builder's Limited Warranty and other PWSC products and services. Builder participants in these programs may also call or write with specific questions about the warranty document(s), coverage, dispute settlement process or claim process. Finally, this position oversees the handling of complex construction defect legal issues, such as interpreting contracts, participating in the defense of claims, and active participation in depositions.RESPONSIBILITIES:Direct supervision of the claims and customer service department leadersCustomer Service team responsible for homeowner and builder service supportClaims team responsible for complaint handling, mediation, arbitration and claims processingOversee local, state, and federal compliance and regulatory issues that pertain to both PWSC and the New Home Construction industryLiaison between builders and homeowners and actively participate in dispute resolution activities, such as mediation and arbitrationDraft and interpret legal contracts and participate in active depositionsMaintain positive working relationships with Department of Housing Development (HUD)Involved in producing and analyzing Customer Service ReportsHold and maintain Insurance Licenses in state required to sign-off on recurring reporting requirements as well as reciprocal licenses required for other statesDirect production of and review of Surplus Lines reporting activitiesIdentify and implement best-in-class process improvementsAct as primary point of contact with multi-national insurance carrier to assist in the underwriting process and make recommendations on claims related issuesDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:Hire, train and supervise staff including Claims and Customer ServiceOversee data entry into PWSC CRM system including directing systems changes to better capture and report on critical dataResolve complex and high exposure claim activitiesIdentify and interpret issues to be elevated to the COO or PresidentProvide department level reportingIdentify coaching and workshop opportunities to assist staff developmentQUALIFICATIONS:JD with active license to practice law3+ years of construction defect litigationExcellent customer service and listening skillsStrong communication skills (verbal and written)Player-coach that works well within a team environmentSelf-motivated with a strong level of intellectual curiosityDetail-orientedSystems and technology orientation. Experience and ability working in CRM or similar systemsAbility to obtain Property & Casualty Insurance License in Commonwealth of VirginiaSurplus Lines Authority in the Commonwealth of VirginiaStrong leadership / team builder with multi-type staffWell-developed management style (interpersonal skills)Able to express high levels of credibility with clients & associates
