Are you interested in using state of the art technologies to build software solutions for defending US assets against missile attacks? Are you driven by your creativity and penchant for solving problems? Do you have experience developing prototypes or models in a team environment? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking an experienced software engineer to be part of our team of prototype developers. As a member of this team you will seek, design, and help implement software solutions focused on improving the Navy's ability to defend US resources. We are passionate about providing sailors with the best tools to do their jobs well, and your experience will be vital in helping to define and develop those tools. As a software engineer in the A3B Combat System Development and Assessment Group *Your primary responsibility will be to collaborate with a small team to identify needs, design solutions, and implement software prototypes related to naval combat systems. *You will research and consult with domain experts to identify software requirements. *You will help establish and follow good software development practices. You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you *Possess a BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering. *Have 3 years of experience in prototyping, modeling and simulation, or equivalent software engineering activities. *Are proficient in C/C , Java, Python, or another object-oriented programming language. *Are skilled in software development on Linux operating systems. *Have excellent oral and written communication skills. *Are willing and able to occasionally travel for work. Some work may be after normal working hours or at government facilities or onboard ships. *Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you *Possess an MS degree in a relevant technical field. *Have experience in all stages of the software development lifecycle. *Have previous experience with Navy or DoD tactical systems.
