Job Profile: Executive Director The Executive Director will partner with the Board of Directors to establish this new organization and will be responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Engage in significant fundraising activities to secure adequate funding for the operation of the organization Develop and execute marketing and public relations campaigns to raise awareness of the organization Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the organization Participate with the Board of Directors in developing and following a budget and a strategic plan to guide the organization Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right skills to help further the organization's mission Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and generally accepted accounting principles for non-profits, and monitor and report on the monthly cash flow of the organization Ensure that the organization complies with all relevant laws Qualifications Education University degree in a relevant field (eg, science, public policy, or public health) Advanced degree preferred Knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge, experience, and previous success with fundraising for non-profit organizations. Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations Knowledge of federal, state, and local legislation applicable to nonprofit organizations Knowledge of the marijuana legalization movement's history, challenges, and opportunities Knowledge of human resources, financial and project management Knowledge of good social science research practices. Ability to accurately interpret research quality and study results. Personal characteristics The Executive Director should have demonstrated competence in the following: Adaptability : Demonstrate a willingness to be flexible, versatile and/or tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency. Communicating Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. Fostering Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness. Organizing: Work independently, set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities Thinking Strategically: Assess options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment, and the vision and values of the organization. Being a Good Ambassador: Speak positively about regulatory reform that some find controversial, and do so with a calm and positive manner even when challenged or attacked. Experience Three or more years of progressive management experience in a non-profit organization Preference will be given to candidates who have successful experience starting up new non-profit organizations or new major programs within them About the ACS: The Association of Cannabis Specialists is start-up not-for-profit professional organization that focuses on education of clinicians, lawmakers, and the cannabis industry. In our short 18 month history we've launched several educational series, political outreach efforts, and industry guidelines. Our Mission: The Association of Cannabis Specialists ensures the highest standards in the practice of cannabis medicine, safeguards patient care with clinical best practices, and interfaces with other stakeholders in the cannabis community. We believe that patients are uniquely vulnerable and have very different needs than recreational users. We provide evidence and experience-based education for patients, cannabis clinicians, referring clinicians, and lawmakers to help them understand cannabis medicine and make informed decisions. We are a political organization striving to implement best practices in the laws and regulations at the federal, state, and international levels.
