Responsibilities

As an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, WG-2610-12, you will on a day-to-day basis analyze performance, tests, inspects, troubleshoots, identifies and isolates malfunctions, disassembles, modifies or repairs, reassembles, and aligns the test stations and their associated peripherals. Considers complex interrelated variables arising from a mix of computer hardware and software, and special purpose test subsystems. Analyzes malfunctions using schematics, logic and wiring diagrams, programming tables, computer program flow charts, software user guides, computer program listings and factory drawings. Diagnoses circuit operating characteristics using computer query, system peculiar test equipment, and computer diagnostics. Isolates problems to the failing component or part using self-test diagnostics, oscilloscopes, frequency meters, signal generators, digital, and differential voltmeters, computer registers and printouts, other special and standard tools and test equipment. Removes and replaces components or assemblies down to the smallest bit, piece, or module authorized, using special and common hand tools, soldering devices and special electronic instruments. Modifies and updates support equipment and software according to applicable technical publications. Analyzes program data and determines if the criteria is sufficient to provide adequate testing and troubleshooting. Examines recurring malfunctions and software deficiencies to determine testing voids and initiates corrective action by submission of quality deficiency reports, software deficiency reports or proposed modifications. Devises repair procedures based on findings and recommends program changes, procedural changes, or data corrections to correct software deficiencies. Recommends revisions to maintenance directives. Connects associated testing equipment to interface the test station system to the aircraft system to facilitate maintenance/repair of line replaceable units (LRU) from the avionics systems including radar, fire control, instrument, flight control, inertial navigation, malfunction analysis and recording equipment systems. When designated on NGB Flying Status Orders, serves as member of flight crew for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements. Guides lower level mechanics in the performance of duties. Provides hands-on training instructions to lower grade personnel concerned with repair of computer controlled automatic test equipment, line replaceable units and aircraft integrated systems. Also provides on-the-job instruction to newly assigned personnel at varying grade levels. Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets. Ensures that materiel and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained and that funds are not obligated for materiel or parts without proper justification. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Evaluations (ORE), Command Logistics Readiness Inspections (CLRT-X), and Aviation Resource Management Surveys. Performs other duties as assigned.

• MARYLAND NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
• Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Grade 12 mechanics repair, overhaul, rebuild, modify, test and troubleshoot ground, shipboard, or airborne electronic systems composed of a number of individual subsystems (i.e., radar, computers, gyro or inertia sensing units, launching control units, etc.) which are linked together and interrelated so that their combined functions accomplish a specific objective and comprise a complete system such as fire control, ballistic missile control, missile guidance, air traffic control, dead reckoning navigation or bombing-navigation. The mechanics apply a broad range of electronic principles as well as knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, optics, or pneumatics to correct malfunctions because the system's equipment is so interrelated that output or functions of one component affect the total system operation and a malfunction may cause error indications in subsystems remote from the defect. Grade 12 mechanics mate, align, calibrate and otherwise integrate all operable subsystems into a functional system. They analyze indications obtained during operation, relate them to the technical data available on the individual subsystems and the various data and function exchanges between the subsystems. They determine type and location of malfunction and perform the repairs or turn the defective sub-systems over to lower grade employees for repair. The grade 12 mechanics monitor the operation of the complex of interrelated subsystems, analyze operating trends, propose preventive maintenance down time to assure continued operating capability, and recommend units for overhaul or engineering evaluation for disposal. They study technical data and equipment specifications to determine the impact that equipment modifications or substitutions will have upon total system operation and on the various maintenance and alignment procedures.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Grade 12 Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanics must have:
- Ability to repair, align, and adjust major integrated electronic systems such as inertial navigation system or automatic flight control. Extensive knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in order to understand and predict the progressive effects of malfunctions throughout the interrelated units, and to predict areas of technical difficulty in order to assist lower grade employees.
- Thorough knowledge of the application of electronic theories and practices to one or more complex integrated systems such as fire control, inertial navigation, or automatic landing control systems. Broad knowledge of such applications as radar, digital or analog computers, digital or cathode ray tube display devices, etc., and specific knowledge of the technology and practices which integrate these components into a total functional system.
- Knowledge of mathematics including algebra and basic trigonometric functions in order to adapt standard formulas to the specific requirements of the integrated system.
- Ability to follow drawings for integrated electronic systems such as radar navigation systems which integrate terrain information from the radar, pitch, roll, and turn rate, etc. from sensing devices and actuate control relays. Ability to trace the effect of a change in one subsystem to other integrated subsystems and determine which controls and devices must be changed or adjusted to compensate.
- Ability to diagnose and determine needed repairs for malfunctions in electronics systems such as weapons control where knowledge of the entire system is necessary to interpret error data and trace back through a number of units of the system to locate the deficiency.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):
-Comprehensive knowledge of electronics, software controlled test stations and their peripherals, test results, a variety of test equipment, self-test programs and technical data containing schematic diagrams, signal and data diagrams, test procedures, program information, and mathematical formulas to identify and isolate malfunctions and determine if a malfunction is in the program, the UUT or the test station.
-Working knowledge of the Abbreviated Test-Language for All Systems (ATLAS) and programming principles sufficient to analyze aircraft avionics equipment and computerized test stations software and software problems and to work with engineering personnel to correct them.
-Thorough knowledge of the interaction of the electronic systems that are interfaced with the test stations (e.g., Target Detection, Recognition, and Acquisition, Inertial Navigation, Heading Attitude Reference, Digital Automatic Stabilization, and Integrated Helmet and Display Sight System).
-Current certification in high reliability soldering techniques, as well as electrostatic discharge protective techniques.
-Knowledge of The Army Maintenance Management System (TAMMS) and other technical publications or directives as may be applicable to the function.
