Summary

This position is located at the Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, National Agricultural Library in Beltsville, MD.

The incumbent's primary purpose is to provide day-to-day administrative support to facilitate the operations of NAL facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs day-to-day operations of the facility including monitoring the condition and status of the facility, the efforts of contractors, and responding to facilities' help requests.
  • Uses audio-visual and computer equipment to support the customer needs of those who use NAL meeting spaces
  • Serves as the primary purchaser of facilities and supplies and processes invoice payments for all service contracts.
  • Inspects and reviews contractor's work by evaluating progress, quality, and verifies completed work to ensure compliance with procedures, methods, and standards.
  • Setting-up audio and video-conferencing, making sure presentation software works, and setting the levels on the Main Reading Room system.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience
Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience supporting facility operations by monitoring the condition and status of an office building or grounds; assisting with maintenance efforts; and entering data into office software.

OR

Education: Successful completion of four (4) years above the high school level from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

An appropriate combination of experience and education.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
