Responsibilities

  • Provides assistance and support to the staff in maintaining and up keeping of the facility grounds and related equipment.
  • Duties require the use of trade practices associated with carpentry and painting as well as work involving motor vehicle operations.
  • Incumbent performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance and minor repairs of buildings, playground equipment, toys and associated equipment. Prepares and submits work orders for repairs requiring additional expertise.
  • Drives assigned buses or other authorized vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 lbs. or carry more than 15 passengers regardless of weight, to transport children/youth on field trips or to/ from school or accompanies walking children to/from school.
  • Drives government provided vehicles to pick up and deliver supplies and food from the original source to the facility.
  • Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily, reporting any concerns to the supervisor before transporting children/youth.

  • Must be 18 years of age at time of employment. Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-15m, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation is required.
  • A current health assessment and immunizations IAW current Army and DoD policy including annual influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires mandatory drug testing. This position is covered by the DA Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Incumbent is required to sign DA Form 5019-R. .
  • This position has critical safety or security responsibilities and as such has been designated as a testing designated position (TDP).
  • As a condition of employment, incumbent of a TDP is subject to a random drug test that occurs without suspicion that a particular individual is using illegal drugs.
  • Schedule includes irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends. Duties involve working both indoors and outdoors under different types of weather conditions.
  • Appointment is subject to successful completion and favorable results of fingerprints, health assessment (physical), and Installation Record Checks to determine suitability for this position.
  • As a driver exerts physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
  • Work assignments require walking on a variety of surfaces, climbing, kneeling, stooping, pulling, pushing, standing, twisting, and sitting.
  • The incumbent must have the physical, mental, oral, visual, and audio ability at a level to assure the duties described are performed in a safe and satisfactory manner.
  • There is a requirement to lift and carry items up to 40 pounds frequently and items that are heavier (50 pounds or more) with the assistance of other employees or lift equipment.


Qualifications

1. High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
2. Ability to communicate in English at a level to assure the duties described can be accomplished in a safe and satisfactory manner.
3. Experience in accomplishing the types of duties described in this job.
4. Requires a valid state driver's license.
5. Requires a valid state driver's license to operate a 15 passenger vehicle.
OR
6. Requires a commercial drivers license (CDL) with no restrictions to operate a 24 passenger vehicle.

HIGHLY PREFERRED:
1. Possess One (1) year of working experience in a setting that involved children (schools, day care, recreation, etc).
2. Possess a Commercial Driver's License with Passenger certification.
3. Possess Two (2+) years of documented work experience in a position that required the ability to repair items (handyman, repairman, maintenance).
4. Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
