Summary

In this position you will provide comprehensive Occupational Health programs to all personnel. This center is a heavy industrial work area. Employees may be firefighters, security personnel, ordnance maintenance personnel, refurbishers of torpedoes, nuclear engineers, welders, machinists and painters. The diverse workforce and heavy industrial nature of the work place requires a wide range of Occupational Health Program elements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Occupational Health Program medical examinations for pre-employment, fitness for duty, medical surveillance, special duty certification, job certification requirements, and more.
• Serve as an occupational medicine consultant regarding hazardous conditions or exposures, interpretation of medically related regulations, occupation exposures to infectious agents, etc.
• Responsible for hearing conservation program; walk in services for injury or illness; program; performing examination for Commercial Motor Vehicle drivers.
• Provide comprehensive occupational medicine evaluation and management of workers to include consultations, diagnosis, treatment and prevention planning for those at risk for occupational and environmental disease conditions.
• Conduct worksite evaluations, to include work sites on aircraft carriers and submarines. Personnel protective equipment such as hardhat, safety glasses and steel toe shoes may be required.
• Responsible for worker medical surveillance programs (e.g. asbestos, lead, cadmium, beryllium, ionizing radiation, etc.).

Qualifications

The salary range for Naval Shipyard Portsmouth is $103,395 to $264,000. The Naval Weapons Station Yorktown position provides direct supervision for two positions; the salary range for this position is $115,000 to $292,000.

• DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. If your Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree is from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, you must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country, or successfully completed the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
• LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• RESIDENCY: 4 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Occupational Medicine (e.g., 3 yrs. Residency & 1 years fellowship, experience or other training). Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Occupational Medicine to perform the core privileges of this position. This experience/training will include performing fitness for duty examinations; evaluating health effects from occupational or environmental exposures and providing commensurate treatment; working in a clinical setting that involves knowledge of occupational and environmental health hazards in a heavy industrial setting involving specialized knowledge of occupational health hazards; experience applying principles, practices, and theories of Occupational Medicine to workplace situations.

Applicants must also be able to satisfy clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

• Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
• Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as an Occupational Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
• No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
• Board certification is desired but not required.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
