Responsibilities

As an IT Specialist, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing technical support over a wide range of operational and maintenance support activities and services.
  • Assisting in the development of policies, processes, procedures, methods and techniques.
  • Recommending solutions for technological improvements.
  • Providing electronic data information product services support to ensure proficient quality level of data and database integrity.
  • Providing technical input to statements of work, task orders and other acquisition related documents in support of Software Product Management, procurement and selection.

Qualifications

You must meet the following United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements for the advertised position. OPM's prescribed Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Information Technology Management Series can be found here . You must meet all qualification requirements including time-in-grade (refer to 5 CFR 300.604 for more information on time-in-grade) by the closing date of the job announcement.

Specialized Experience:is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-11.

Candidates for the GS-12 grade level must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes: 1) Supporting electronic databases and maintaining database accuracy (i.e. data file transfer, data dissemination, data analysis, and troubleshooting). 2) Analyzing, identifying, and resolving users' problems and concerns. 3) Planning and executing projects and assisting with technical input to establish technical decisions and initiatives for projects.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

In addition to meeting specialized experience requirements you must have the following IT-related competencies:

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
