Your Job As Regulatory Counsel you will obtain timely regulatory approvals, ensure compliance with global laws and regulations, and maintain that approvals remain in good standing for satellites, launches, market access, antennas/gateways, services, and equipment. Regulatory Counsel develops and maintains positive working relationships with relevant government officials and work to enhance their understanding of SES satellite systems, services, and business. In this position you will contribute to the Regulatory teams' efforts in developing and implementing support for commercial objectives through written and oral advocacy, national proceedings, policy papers, and external meetings. Additionally, you will be responsible for supporting the strategies to secure regulatory authorizations, including market access and other licenses, for SES satellites and services as well as for collaborating with internal teams to represent SES interests at meetings of regional and international organizations or associations. Your Responsibilities Support FCC licensing (eg, satellites, launch and earth stations), rulemakings, compliance, and other US government telecom policy matters Support international satellite, market access, services (eg, aero and maritime) and any other required licensing, approvals as well as policy, and advocacy initiatives at the national, regional, and global levels Maintain full regulatory compliance in areas of responsibility Maintain detailed knowledge of telecom and satellite laws and regulations applicable to our business in assigned countries particularly in the Americas region Conduct research and policy analysis of national and/or international policy proceedings and developments, in countries or regions of responsibility and as assigned Prepare policy positions that advance commercial objectives in national regulatory consultations and in international fora (eg, CITEL, SIA, ITU, etc.) Support policy advocacy via strategic, substantive and timely interventions (as SES or via trade associations) that support business and policy objectives in national and international policy meetings. Topics might include: spectrum, market access, broadband policy, communications and internet regulation, satellite competition, universal service, spectrum allocations, legal intercept, ITU issues, privacy, orbital debris, and space policy Represent SES at domestic and international meetings Develop positive working relationships with key government officials in countries of responsibility Advance SES business objectives including direct support of the commercial teams Support antitrust compliance team Support sanctions and law enforcement compliance activities Support broader Legal and Regulatory team Interact with all levels of SES management, as well as outside legal counsel and consultants where appropriate What's in it for you? Your Competencies Demonstrated self-starter with ability to facilitate and coordinate teams toward a solution Strong analytical ability and outstanding independent business judgment Excellent written and oral communication (drafting, negotiating, and advocacy) skills Ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, complex business and regulatory environment Satellite industry and/or telecommunications industry experience a plus Ability to work well in a culturally diverse environment Relevant regulatory or government experience a plus Advocacy experience before the US or other governments a plus Your Qualifications 4+ years of related experience Admission to practice law in the US, UK, or European Union Experience working with telecom licensing, regulation, legislation, policy, technology, and/or spectrum Government telecommunications (regulatory or policy) experience a plus Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency preferred; multiple language skills a plus Willingness to travel internationally
