Summary

This position is located in the Naval Support Activity, Regional Support Services Program, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Department. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine duties in support of the Stable program. This position is located at the Stables located on Oceana Naval Air Station, in Virginia Beach, Va.

Responsibilities

This position performs some or all of the following duties:

Greets each guest checking Identification Cards (ID) to ensure only authorized patrons utilize the program and are properly signed in. Accepts reservations and answers questions either in person or via telephone in regards to hours of operation, upcoming events. barnd fees, etc. Operates a csh register, ringin sales for barn fees, trail rides, riding lessions, etc. providing correct change to the customer. At end of shift, completes the Daily Activit Report (DAR), ensures all cash handling/reporting/securign requirements are met, verifies the amount of money collected and drops the cahier bag into the drop safe. Accompanies guests on trail rides and pony rides. Grooms, tacks horses, feeds hays, and waters horses. Briefly observes horses and reports any illness or injuries to the supervisor immediately. Responsible for cleaning stalls, buildings, and grounds and assisting with minor repair of buildings, simple farm equipment, pastures, trails and woodlands. This may include but is not limited to painting, replacing fences, seeding, mowing, clearing, etc. Performs basic cleaning duties to maintain a constant and clean working area (both inside and outside the facility) to ensure all current safety and sanitaiton requirements are followed and maintained. Sweep/mops floors, cleans stalls and restrooms ensuring they are clean, orderly and sanitary. Performs a variety of simple maintenance (mowing, plowing, etc) using a variety of farm equipment. Reports all equipment malfunctions to supervisor for corrective action. Upon closure of he facility, completes fire and safety checks, secures all doors, windows, storerooms, stalls, ect. and briefly oserves horses. Notifies the "trouble desk" of the Public Works Department (CWPD) of any emergencies that may occur. Prepares and submits daily report of night operations, to include both minor and serious incidents. This includes equipment breakdown or repairs, leaks, personnel/staffing problems related to work situations and any other infromation that may affect the operation of the facility and/or managment decisions.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • This position is subject to an irregular tour of duty, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • A valid state driver's license is strongly perferred as the incumbent may be required to pick up supplies and/or equipment off-site.
  • Must possess fluent command of the English language and be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be skilled in customer service techniques, tack and good judgment.
