Responsibilities

As an Attorney Advisor, you will:
  • Advise the Director and Bureau components on the Bureau's authorities and jurisdiction, the interpretation of Federal consumer financial statutes and regulations, and matters of administrative law. Work in this area ensures that the Bureau takes consistent and well supported legal positions across the range of agency functions, including rulemaking, supervision, enforcement, and consumer education.
  • Research and provide written and/or oral analyses to answer complex legal questions and address issues relating to constitutional and administrative law, consumer finance law, the Dodd-Frank Act, and other laws and regulations arising out of the CFPB's exercise of its rulemaking, supervisory, enforcement, and other authorities.
  • Review rulemaking and other documents, research and provide written and/or oral analyses to answer questions regarding the effects of provisions of proposed legislation, or proposed changes in agency policies or regulations.

1. Law Degree: Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school with an LL.B., J.D. or equivalent.

2. Bar Membership: Applicants must be a current member of a bar with a valid license to practice law in a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

3. Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have specialized experience at the next lower grade level, or equivalent, that has equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.

- Requires demonstrated research and analytical ability, public policy interest, and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience specified in the duties section of this announcement is strongly desired.

In addition, you must have:
Three years of related legal experience. Such experience must include experience as a licensed attorney in order to be creditable,

OR
You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at the CN-52 level (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
