Duties & Responsibilities MSC is searching for a Biologist to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a full-time opportunity with MSC, and it is on-site at NIH in Bethesda/Rockville, Maryland.Perform a variety of genome-and transcriptome-wide techniques including but not limited to RNA-seq, low-input RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, PAR-CLIPPerform reagent preparation, sample loading, and machine operation and maintenance of Illumina NextSeq500 and HiSeq 2000Perform library preparation for Illumina sequencingPerform high quality nucleic acid purification required for sample library preparationPipet small volumes accurately and calculate molaritiesUtilize a working knowledge of enzyme-substrate interactions in library construction efforts required for Illumina sequencingPerform a variety of nucleic acid shearing protocols to generate appropriate range of sized nucleic acid fragmentsKeep and maintain a clean and efficient working laboratory environment devoid of RNAse and PCR contaminationsOrder and reorganize necessary supplies and reagentsMaintain laboratory notebooks with sufficient details for reproducing resultsMaintain accurate sample tracking and data management Perform problem solving, call technical support to fix problems, initiate service calls or repairs, and interact with field service engineers and field application specialists for repair and optimization of advanced sequencing equipment and technologiesStay current with regards to latest protocols, applications, scientific methodology, sample handling and processing relevant to next generation DNA sequencing technologiesOperate Agilent Bioanalyzer, conventional and real-time PCR machines, spectrophotometers and fluorometers for analysis of DNA and DNA sample quantity and quality Requirements Master's degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline. Three years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Master's degree4 years of experience in biology or related fieldExperience performing a variety of genome-and transcriptome-wide techniquesExperience working with Illumina NextSeq500 and HiSeq2000Demonstrated experience working in a lab environmentDemonstrated knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed recordsDemonstrated experience in performing molecular biology researchDemonstrated experience in managing and disposing of hazardous wasteMedical Science & Computing (MSC), a Dovel Company, is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
