Supporting the Most Exciting and Meaningful Missions in the WorldSenior ParalegalTHIS IS AN SCA POSITION Job Description: (Senior Paralegal at the Securities & Exchange Commission) The Senior Paralegal shall be responsible for preparing memoranda and other legal documents; following established guidelines, gathering, preparing, and summarizing relevant materials for use by attorneys and/or other office professionals; reviewing documents and cross-checking information; entering data into computerized systems, updating databases and spreadsheets; obtaining documents from paper and electronic files; assisting with responding to information sharing requests; performing document review and research and summarizing findings; drafting and editing internal and external documents and/or correspondence; assisting with document productions; maintaining, organizing, and filing office records and documents; performing initial compilation of documents for FOIA or production requests; drafting internal reports; drafting notices, orders and action memos for exemptive applications; researching and collecting data and one-off projects; performing complex data-base searches related to filings (eg, Name Relationship Search Index) and other legal data-base searches (eg, basic WestLaw and/or LEXIS); maintaining chronological/searchable databases of office precedent (ie, comment letters, minutes of meetings and office policy "significant outcomes" memoranda); and preparing and maintaining database monitoring and tracking status (eg, track and/or organize materials using agency automated database/systems such as word processing software, spreadsheets, computer graphics, presentation software or database applications).In addition to the Responsibilities/Duties described above, independently performs complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation; writes preliminary drafts of legal memoranda and correspondence. For litigation specialty, experience in witness interviews is required. Is expected to work independently on tasks without the need for continuous input from SEC staff.Performs complex legal research for SEC staff.Assists in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc. reviewing documents for relevance and privilege; and assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation. Is expected to work independently on tasks without the need for continuous input from SEC staff.Requirements:Requires Paralegal Certificate and 5 years of experience in the required specialty, such as litigation, document analysis, or accounting.An equivalent level of legal training may be substituted for the Paralegal Certificate, however, there is no substitute for the requirement for 5 years of experience in a required specialty.For litigation specialty 1 year of experience in trial support, cite checking legal motions and memoranda, and automated litigation support is required. Must have and use excellent oral and written communications skills.Requires thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS/NEXIS, CLEAR, Westlaw, Concordance or Recommind; experience documenting Table of Authorities, and Table of Contents.Role also requires knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources.
