Summary

Incumbent is involved in Fitness and/or Athletics and Sports programs and other similar MWR recreation services. Provides oversight of activities and necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information on the use of equipment.

Responsibilities

Incumbent is involved in Fitness and/or Athletics and Sports programs and other similar MWR recreation services. Provides oversight of activities and necessary services to authorized patrons, including general information on the use of equipment. Provides information concerning facilities and operations. Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures. Monitors and checks MWR areas for security around premises. Assists in maintaining routine reports and/or performs clerical, custodial and/or general maintenance duties as needed. Operates cash register and receives payments. Arranges chairs, tables, and sporting and/or exercise equipment in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled group activities, group meetings, sports events or other functions pertaining to Sports, Fitness, and Aquatics. Welcomes visitors and answers incoming telephone calls. Notifies patrons of activity schedules and registration requirements. Monitors spectators and participant at sports events to ensure orderly conduct. Establishes schedules of events, applying rules and regulations in supervising assigned youth participants in indoor and outdoor activities. Helps to plan and coordinate details of recreational activities. Receives, stores, and issues sports equipment and supplies. May keep attendance records or scores at sporting events, operate audiovisual equipment or perform other duties as directed by lead recreation assistant. Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Must have knowledge of variou types of fitness and weight equipment in order to provide basic instruction on proper use.


Qualifications

Knowledge of athletic, recreation, fitness and sports operations that would be gained through one to two years of experience which enables the incumbent to perform the duties of this position. Must have knowledge of the principles and methods used in providing support for recreational and physical fitness programs. Must have the ability to repair and maintain various types of fitness equipment. Must have knowledge of various types of fitness and weight equipment in order to provide basic instruction on proper use. Must be CPR and First Aid certified within one month of employment and have the ability to maintain certification.

Must be able to work days, nights, holidays and weekends.
