Responsibilities

  • You will prepare and deliver graduate-level seminars and presentations within the core curriculum of School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW).
  • You will plan, develop, coordinate, and execute case studies and campaign analyses in strategic, operational, and political decision-making in the preparation for war, the conduct of war, and stability and post-war reconstruction environments.
  • You will prepare and present instruction for faculty and staff development on a wide variety of topics relating to the incumbent?s academic discipline in support of professional military education (PME).
  • You will develop, supervise, and evaluate graduate level course of instruction designed to meet learning outcomes established by the faculty and approved by SAW leadership.
  • You will participate in the Course Content Review Board for your lessons and prepare the report for submission to the SAW leadership, making recommendations for improvement in lesson content and method of delivery and assessment.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a doctorate of philosophy in the field of history with a preferred focus in military history, from an accredited college or university.

The ideal candidate will have:
-An expert knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of the case study method,seminar leading, public speaking, wargaming, and other techniques of instruction suitable for teaching mid-grade, professional military officers.
-A doctorate of philosophy in the field of national security affairs, international relations,military history, or a related field from an accredited college or university and publication in the field of expertise is desired.
-An expert knowledge in a specified field as it pertains to the study of wars, battles,campaigns, and current military institutions.
-Research experience that is progressive in nature, with proven experience in publication of results.
-Demonstrate evidence of empirically and methodologically sound, scholarly publications.
-Teaching experience at the graduate level, in seminar, lecture, and working-group format.
-A high degree of skill in written and oral communication in order to instruct in a professional military academic environment and to produce written instructional materials, articles, and book reviews for professional journals.

This solicitation of interest is to create a pool of candidates to fill an excepted service, AD-07 faculty position at the Marine Corps University (MCU, Training and Education Command, Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. The incumbent will serve as Professor of Military History, School of Advanced Warfighting.

The selectee for this position will serve as PROFESSOR OF MILITARY HISTORY in the Marine Corps University of TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMAND.

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, develop, coordinate, implement, teach, and evaluate the accredited, graduate-level lessons of instruction for SAW. The incumbent will also serve as a faculty advisor to an assigned seminar group of 13-16 students (military officers with 10-15 years of experience from all aimed services of the United States, and comparable experienced international military students and interagency professions, providing subject-matter expertise, graduate-level instruction, mentoring, coaching, guidance, evaluation, feedback, and leadership for the students, fellow faculty members, and staff of the College.

This appointment is not to exceed 3 years but may be extended at management's discretion.

Candidates should possess a doctorate of philosophy in the field of history with a preferred focus in military history, from an accredited college or university.

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

This opening will be filled under Title 10 Excepted Service, Professor of Military History AD-07 salary range: $130,048 - $135,209, which includes the current Local Market Supplement of 29.32%. Pay and title will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and MCU pay setting.
