Edelman?s DC office has an exciting opportunity for a Regional Finance Director (RFD) to help us remain an industry leader as the world?s largest independent public relations agency. JOB DESCRIPTION: As a strategic partner to the Regional President and reporting to the US CFO, the RFD is responsible for overseeing DC?s financial administration, goals, objectives and budgets across multiple practices. The RFD provides direction for financial operations including reporting, forecasting, budgeting, analysis, client finance, contract negotiations, compliance, and decision support. As a member of the region?s leadership team, the RFD also contributes to the overall business strategy and planning working closely with leadership. . RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Management Planning and Analysis ? Responsible for financial management of Edelman?s DC office including oversight of revenue recognition, financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, process compliance, and staffing. ? As strategic partner to Regional President provide insightful, proactive strategic financial counsel. Conduct regular meetings with Regional President to discuss financial health of the business and share knowledge/insights about results to date, forecast and revenue pipeline. Partner with Regional President to proactively offer suggestions on how to impact future trends. ? Review department and regional financial statements and operating and capital budgets/projections for variances, trends and accuracy. Ensure annual operating budgets and quarterly projections for the region are timely, accurate, and thoughtful. Analyze management reports and identify and communicate areas of concern and suggested improvements to management. Develop regional cost center budgets, projections and forecasts. Set and establish metrics and thresholds in the region ? Apply analysis and judgment to solve complex problems and decision support ? Work with leadership to pivot financial process alongside the business transformation to communications marketing ? Work with Regional President to coordinate facilities and space planning and lease negotiations ? Present financials to regional leadership Client Finance ? Supervise regional finance team with client and vendor contract issues, negotiation of bill rates, volume discounts and financial incentives. Provide analysis and counsel in contract and pricing negotiations and location planning. ? Supervise client financial negotiations with Procurement / Strategic Sourcing where applicable to achieve mutual beneficial terms. Review pricing models for all large projects and those that transcend multiple geographies. Assist account teams in preparing responses to RFI?s / RFP?s. ? Develop and maintain strategic relationships with procurement/purchasing contacts where applicable. ? Determine or approve pricing strategies to ensure agency financial objectives are met. Establish thresholds and metrics requiring additional finance approval. ? Ensure written client agreement is obtained (via contract, letter of agreement, signed SOW, etc.) for all work. Communicate with clients regarding budgets, billing and accounts receivable issues. Determine reporting practices to ensure clients are appropriately informed of financial status of their account. ? Supervise client reporting practices to ensure clients are appropriately informed of financial status of their account. Manage client audits. Financial Controls and People Development ? Communicate area of risk or exposure to Regional President and US CFO. ? Ensure local compliance with US GAAP and business processes (determining and administering revenue recognition methodology and cost/expense treatment). Educate team on US GAAP or Edelman policy where appropriate ? Ensure regional compliance with company policies and procedures and ethics policy. Develop and recommend new or enhanced financial policies, procedures and processes for the region or company ? Oversee a team of Finance Managers working within the region?s departments/offices ensuring appropriate staffing levels and supervision. Set and pursue challenging personal goals for both self and staff ? Hold regular finance team meetings within the region updating staff on region performance, finance systems and other areas of finance. Conduct quarterly financial excellence reviews with Finance Managers to take a ?deeper dive? into a specific department to test revenue recognition, contract compliance and financial management ? Oversee new hire management. Contribute to performance appraisal process for peers and managers ? Supervise and train Finance personnel and be accountable for their work. Provide ongoing constructive feedback and consistently hold staff accountable for performance, compliance and ethical business conduct. ? Design and engage in team building activities. Build team morale by engaging with staff, active listening and maintaining dialog with all team members including skip level meetings as appropriate. ? Oversight of GFS (global financial system) training program of project managers ? Share best practices, good ideas, and mistakes freely to establish trust, transparency and teamwork. Seek and suggest better ways of getting things done; help others adapt to change ? Develop strong professional relationships within the Edelman network. ? Act as mediator/liaison between departments and regions to resolve issues related to finance . QUALIFICATIONS: ? Strong financial planning and analysis skills; good business acumen ? Able to articulate complex financial concepts in layman?s terms ? Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. ? Client service oriented and fosters positive working relationships ? Well organized with strong time management skills and attention to detail; follows through on multiple projects and juggles conflicting priorities in a fast paced environment ? Experienced in effectively managing a team; can effectively delegate, coach and leverage resources ? Leads by example, demonstrates strong work ethic, has initiative and is a self-starter ? Skilled in conflict resolution and problem solving ? Experience in contract negotiations and pricing is a plus ? Professional services or agency industry experience including production and media services is preferred. ? Advanced knowledge of financial systems, strong Microsoft Excel skills ? Demonstrated experience in US GAAP and internal controls ? Bachelor?s degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA or MBA is a plus. ? 15+ years of Finance and/or Accounting experience .
