Senior Mechanical Engineer Greenbelt, MD NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Description: We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer ideally with exposure and experience in mechanisms design to support a growing spaceflight hardware design and development effort at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The engineer will also support NASA flight projects including design and development of spaceflight hardware, mechanical systems and work together with others on the design of related MGSE (Mechanical Ground Support Equipment). Duties will include, but not be limited to, performing concept trades, concept design and detailed design of mechanical mechanisms and electromechanical systems and their components. Provide engineering support throughout the fabrication, assembly and testing processes, including life testing in the development of prototypes, ETUs and flight systems. Must be able to work independently on assignments, but must also be able to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment. Collaboration with others on trade studies, analyses, etc. in order to create innovative and highly functional designs, subsystems and systems. Will also participate in concept/peer reviews; design reviews and will need to provide technical details and progress of assigned tasks. Top Skills Details 1) Design and development of high reliability mechanical systems for a spaceflight hardware program or similar high reliability program 2) Mechanisms design for high precision applications 3) Use of CREO as a design tool or the ability to navigate in the tool to review and comment on designs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited school. 5-10 years of relevant work experience in electromechanical systems, mechanisms and their associated subsystems for high reliability programs. Experience with documentation and design review processes for large complex mechanical systems projects. Experience with CREO 3D solid modeling as a tool or for design.
