The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Edmonds is accountable to the RCNO for the provision of Nursing quality, practice, standards, scope and patient care. The CNO is accountable for executing the System Nursing Vision and strategic plan for Nursing. In collaboration with the Chief Executive, the CNO is accountable for supporting the achievement of Swedish Medical Center's operational goals. He/she provides leadership in operations, financial planning, and business activities. This includes strategically ensuring a balance of optimal and efficient patient care; staff, patient, and physician satisfaction; and cooperative partnerships with other organizational departments and professional groups. With a constant focus on patient-centeredness and staff and patient safety, the CNO creates and maintains programs, polices, procedures, and processes for care delivery at his/her campus, consistent with organizational standards and processes. The CNO directs the implementation of an effective, ongoing program to measure, analyze, and improve the quality of nursing care, treatment, and services. The leader collaborates with other campus CNOs to assure standardized approaches and alignment with organizational and regulatory goals and compliance. He/she will also constructively manage change and promote a team-based approach. The CNO will be responsible for the following functions: Leads nursing and clinical services in support of Swedish Edmonds' goals. Leads the achievement of regulatory standards with quality monitoring and improvement activities at facility level. Demonstrates service excellence and positive interpersonal relations in dealing with patients/family members, employees, medical staff, managers, and community members so that productivity and positive relations are maximized. Actively supports and incorporates mission and core values into daily activities. Treats others with respect and demonstrates excellence, justice and compassion in daily work and relationships with others. Measures, designs and leads efforts to enhance patient satisfaction. Maintains, designs and leads efforts to enhance patient satisfaction. Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and as appropriate, other information. Integrates quality improvement principles in work life by displaying consistent commitment to customer services. Exhibits quality focus and active involvement in improvement of work processes, and employees learned methods for achieving improved outcomes. Exhibits achievement and learning orientation to work and maintain a broad outlook for keeping up with current information and expanding knowledge and skill; all the while, ensuring contribution to organizational success. Displays the ability to work in an ever-changing environment and participate constructively in change processes. Develops a management team that can plan and implement change in a positive manner involving staff participation and input, as appropriate. Develops and maintains a positive environment and ongoing communication with all key medical staff, hospital staff and union. Works collaboratively with other facility leaders and organizational leaders to realize patient care and system goals. Works collaboratively with leaders to define, refine and implement the strategic plan for nursing and the organization. Coordinates facility, equipment and systems needs to maintain state of the art technology and facilities for care and services. Focuses organization on top critical priorities and anticipates future trends and consequences. Can create competitive strategies and plans to address future needs. Encourages creative approaches, and eliminates barriers for success. Leads by example and develops management and leadership skills in directors, managers, and supervisors. Managerial/Supervisory responsibilities, which include the overall management responsibility for nursing services at Swedish Edmonds. Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and/or related field is required. Master's Degree in Nursing and/or related field is required. At least ten (10) years of progressive success in nursing and/or healthcare administration. Demonstrated experience as a healthcare executive with a proven track record in clinical operations and clinical program development with a major institution or market leaders. National certification from ANA or Professional Organization in a relevant field of clinical expertise is strongly recommended. Current and unencumbered Washington RN License. Financial, business development, marketing, analytical, team building and collaborative working skills are essential. Knowledge and skills in hospital outpatient and physician practice operations are desired. Knowledge of and the ability to apply sound principles of management and leadership. Knowledge of and ability to apply standards of nursing. Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirement regarding patient care and nursing practices. Ability to model nursing process. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to develop and manage department budget. Ability to analyze, understand and improve a variety of systems and processes. Ability to read and interpret financial information. Ability to facilitate group interactions. Ability to work collaborative with others in the organization to achieve mutual goals. Ability to work independently, yet problem solve as an effective team member.
