Summary

We are seeking a skilled, customer service oriented Graphic Designer for the Public Affairs Office (PAO). You will act as the publications manager for ABMC, serving as our branding and identity standards expert. The initial focus of this position is to establish the recurring visual information needs of the PAO, and assisting in developing policies and processes to best serve our worldwide Agency. Teamwork and willingness to assist in all areas of PAO as needed is a must.

Responsibilities

Visual information, both digitally and in print, is a key tool in keeping America connected with ABMC and the stories of America's war dead alive.
To this end, this position functions as a visual information specialist in the Public Affairs Office (PAO) and is responsible for planning and coordinating the dissemination of information relating to the organization's programs, objectives and functions through graphic/visual information design.
  • Manages the agency's publications program, ensuring design consistency throughout ABMC publications;
  • Develops, designs, creates, and edits information materials designed to reach international audiences on the web, social media, and in-print, such as booklets, brochures, posters, bookmarks, info-graphics, social media graphics, elements for finished video products, etc.;
  • Determines the need for visual information materials to support programs across ABMC, and assists overseas operations in developing specialized items for geographic locations;
  • Assists in the development of communication plans by considering such items as specific topics or aspects to emphasize, the most effective media to use in communicating with intended audiences, the kind of information various groups want or need, etc.;
  • Evaluates the impact and effectiveness of communication plans and advises management if efforts should be discontinued, emphasis changed or coverage expanded in improving intercommunication between organization and various audiences through media utilization.

  • This is a Term position not to exceed 18 months and may be extended at management's discretion up to a maximum of four (4) years.


Qualifications

Applicants must have at least one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service sufficient to perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include activities such as: 1) planning and coordinating the dissemination of corporate information; 2) developing, designing, and creating information materials using page layout and graphic design software, and 3) implementing a public affairs strategy.

Time in Grade
Time-in-grade restrictions apply for all candidates considered under Merit Promotion (generally applicants who have held a Federal civilian appointment within the previous 52 weeks). These applicants must have 1 year time-in-grade at the next lower level or equivalent to qualify.
