Responsibilities

As Deputy Director of the National Center for Health Workforce Analysis, you will serve as a recognized national expert in health care workforce analysis and research. You will provide supervision and leadership to a multidisciplinary staff of researchers engaged in the planning, execution, and administration of domestic health care labor force research and evaluation projects.

Specifically, you will:
  • Provide consultation on the development and design of new strategies and activities related to U.S. health care occupations, to ensure feasibility of efforts and accuracy of outcomes.
  • Use a variety of quantitative and qualitative scientific research techniques to examine and measure sufficiency, distribution, and quality of U.S. health care and health support occupations.
  • Review all research and evaluation reports produced by program staff and revise these documents as necessary. Products should be well-written and scientifically valid, as well as supporting established center objectives and policies.
  • Provide leadership to the health care workforce community, especially academic institutions and State and local health agencies, in the development, organization, and implementation of HRSA health care and health support workforce programs based on data obtained and maintained by HRSA.

The basic requirement for all Social Scientist 0101 series positions require that you meet one of the following:

A bachelors' or graduate/higher degree in behavioral or social science; or a degree in a related discipline appropriate to the position.

OR

A combination of education and experience that provided you with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that you have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to the basic requirement listed above, in order to qualify for this Supervisory Workforce Research Analyst position at the GS-15, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-14 level in the federal service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Serving as a subject matter expert/senior consultant on health care professional education services, delivery models and funding mechanism in order to provide advice, recommendations and guidance to senior management, internal and external stakeholders in both the federal, public and private sector; Leading a staff, workgroup, or teams conducting the planning, evaluation and analysis of health professions workforce programs and or health care delivery programs; and Serving as a scientific advisor or consultant on the administration and analysis of statistical surveys, data collection plans, and evaluation of health professional workforce programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.

SCIENTIFIC WRITING - Prepares written documentation to transfer scientific information about concepts, situations, products, services, or results to audiences with varying levels of scientific knowledge.
