Overview: At the Legacy Elder Law Center, we focus on elder law, special needs law, and resolution of disputes involving estate/trust matters, fiduciary duties, and guardianships/conservatorships, as well as closely related practice areas. We are a nationally recognized, yet small and collegial Northern Virginia law firm located in downtown Leesburg, Virginia. We take a highly personal and customized approach to the practice of law. We are seeking an experienced, full time litigation and planning associate attorney with extraordinary compassion and outstanding organizational and communication skills to assist our chief planning and litigation partner in providing outstanding results and customer service to our clients. If these words describe you, you may be the person we are looking for: Reliable / Dependable Compassionate Good Listener Process Oriented / Methodical Trustworthy / Ethical Completes Tasks Team Player Sincere Even-tempered Humble Patient Investigative / Curious Decides things based on facts/figures Checks information Detail Oriented / Analytical / Precise / Accurate Job Overview: The Litigation Associate works closely with the firm's chief litigation partner by handling matters such as factual/legal research and cite checking, acquiring and reviewing records, drafting and assembling documents, complaints, briefs, pleadings, and motions, handling settlement negotiations and mediations, making court appearances and trying cases. The Litigation Associate will work directly with the firm's clients to handle their litigation matters. The Litigation Associate will oversee staff paralegals and support personnel to conduct litigation support, document creation, legal research, and witness interviews. The Litigation Associate positively represents the firm at all times through a success-oriented and professional demeanor. This position requires substantial management time. Job Specifications and Duties: Act as the firm's primary attorney contact with clients for litigation matters. Litigation support, motions and trial practice in all state courts and US District Courts. Mediation, arbitration, and settlement negotiations. Delegate effectively and manage time wisely. Collaborating daily with attorneys and co-workers to meet deadlines. Responding to client, attorney and team member questions and inquiries within acceptable time frames. Assess prospective clients' needs and determine next steps. Additional duties as assigned. Job Expectations - The Litigation Associate has: At least 5 years experience in litigation. A Virginia State Bar license. A positive attitude and ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with clients and team members. A friendly, courteous and professional demeanor. A commitment to quality, critical thinking, focus and consistent follow through with clients and team members. The ability to prioritize, organize and meet deadlines. Is a self-starter and adept at taking directions, exceeding expectations; not happy when things are "just so." Is confident and tenacious, willing to "speak truth to power" when needed. The ability to anticipate and easily respond to an ever-changing schedule while at the same time work to adhere to the schedule. The ability to exercise diplomacy and discretion. Commitment to effective teamwork and fulfills roll with a sense of humor, gratitude and patience. Reports to the chief litigation and planning partner but is also expected to coordinate efforts with the Office Manager.
