DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION - Search completed October 2018 Episcopal Center for Children Washington, DC Background: The Episcopal Center for Children (ECC) is a private, nonprofit, non-denominational day treatment facility for emotionally troubled children and their families from the greater Washington, DC area. The program is designed for children between the ages of 5 to 13 years, grades K - 7, and with sufficient cognitive ability to benefit from the program. Acceptance is based on the needs of the children and families, regardless of religious affiliation, race, or financial status. The goal of treatment, therapeutic milieu, and individualized special education programming is to empower each child to function productively within his/her family and the community, to return to his/her public school, and have a real opportunity for a successful, emotionally healthy, and productive future. The ECC's programming is based on the core belief in children, their strengths, and in what they can be. Scope: The incoming Director of Education will report to and work collaboratively with the President/CEO to oversee all educational facets of the organization, including programs, services, personnel, and budget, ultimately helping to facilitate positive outcomes for ECC students and families. The ECC is seeking a strong curricular and instructional leader with knowledge of both child and human development. The Director of Education should have a keen understanding of progressive education, project-based learning, and a developed understanding of supporting a range of student and teacher learners. The successful candidate will function as a development and operational leader, providing strategic direction in five key areas - 1) Strategic Planning and Leadership; 2) Educational Staffing; 3) Program Development; 4) Strengthening Infrastructure; and 5) Financial Management. The successful candidate will be a consummate relationship builder, maintaining close cooperative working relationships with staff and other community groups, social agencies, and public agencies that refer children to ECC. Qualifications Candidates must have an advanced degree and an earned teaching certificate; valid professional licensure with endorsements in administration, supervision, and special education; significant experience as a teacher and administrator working with at-risk students; working knowledge of IEP development, monitoring, and reporting; and significant senior management experience with a track record of effectively leading and overseeing a performance-based and outcomes-based program and staff.
