The Hospital Education Specialist plans and coordinates educational activities for nursing, allied health and other members of hospital staff which shall be directed toward the achievement of excellence in patient care. The Hospital Educator is a Registered Nurse who serves as educational expert in instructional development and design , educator, facilitator, academic liaison, change agent, team member, researcher, consultant, leader, communicator, collaborator, advisor and mentor. Responsible for hospital wide education which supports evidence based practice and practice-based evidence toward achieving educational outcomes, safe and outcome focused care. Provides support toward professional development and life-long learning of hospital staff through orientation, competency program, in-service education, continuing education, career development, role transition, research and scholarship, and academic partnerships. Education and Experience : Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required. Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or education required. Minimum of five (5) years of related and progressive experience in staff development required. Certification in staff development is preferred. Licensure & Certifications : Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Maryland or compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) provider certification required. Current Basic Life Support Instructor (BLS-I) certification required. Physical Demands : While performing this job the individual will work in confined areas and classrooms. The job requires sitting 70% of the time and standing and walking 30% of the time. Frequent bending, reaching and ability to lift and carry supplies and curriculum materials weighing up to 20 lbs. required. The job requires visual and auditory acuity and ability to orally communicate. There is a potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood and body substances and hazardous materials. .
