Summary

This position is located in Assateague Island National Seashore.

Serves as the field supervisor in the Fee Management Branch of the Division of Administration. It is directly supervised by the Revenue and Fee Business Manager. The incumbent supervises approximately 5-7 temporary visitor use assistants (VUAs), as well as 4 permanent VUAs, and is responsible for the daily operation of a busy entrance station, a campground and remittance office.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the fee stations to include visitor contacts, the daily remittance of collected funds, maintaining supplies and equipment, tracking and safeguarding of accountable stock, and conducting fee audits.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, evaluation, and mentoring of permanent and temporary staff.
  • Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinate staff and provides technical and policy direction
  • Performs visitor management related services such as traffic control, radio/phone notification of emergency situations and handling emergencies until arrival of proper authorities.

  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old due to the hazardous work (ie. driving a motor vehicle, etc.)


Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes work that involves directing daily activities of a fee collection operation such as, but not limited to: collecting, handling, tracking and depositing monies; auditing fee collection and deposit procedures; supervising/leading, scheduling and managing others involved in fee collection and visitor orientation; use technology and software in revenue and fee management; assisting fee staff and visitors with issue; resolving employee and visitor complaints. You must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Physical Demands: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy Items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.

Working Conditions: Work is often performed In small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone In isolated locations.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
