Job Announcement

This position requires proficiency and knowledge in Building Automation Systems (BAS) such as Trane, Siemens, Delta, Tritium, Web Control, Lutron , GE, Crestron, Lime Light and Building Logix. Fairfax County's Facilities Management Department's (FMD) Operations and Maintenance Division is a service oriented team focusing on energy management and improving comfort and maintainability of Fairfax County operated facilities. Duties include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and proactive improvement of Building Energy Management systems (BEMS) serving Fairfax County Government Facilities. This position will maintain databases, analyze system operational issues, proactively monitor and identify and help resolve HVAC system issues. Maintains system backups, assist in new construction of as a technical expert, will coordinate with project managers and other team members to identify and resolve high energy consumption facility issues, and identify HVAC systems operating outside design parameters. This position will provide remote support to HVAC and other technicians to help diagnose and resolve system issues during normal and after business hours. May conduct virtual tours of facilities and report status to appropriate persons for needed action during extreme weather conditions. This position will spend most of their time working with BAS systems. FMD currently uses the following integrated building systems; Trane, Siemens, Delta, Tritium, Web Control, Lutron, GE, Crestron, Lime light, Building Logix. Most of these systems are based on Virtual servers but the duties will require accessing equipment located in buildings around the county. There is a high focus on network security and system resiliency. This position will be responsible to ensure contractors are following security protocols when working on BAS systems

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus one year of professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.

Upon successful completion of four years of professional engineering experience, Engineer II employees are eligible for a non-competitive appointment to Engineer III within the engineering discipline for which they have been trained.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. This position is considered "Emergency Essential Personnel".

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining BEMS systems
  • Strong understanding of large and small commercial building HVAC systems and operation
  • HVAC license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to attend off site training programs, must be able to access facility equipment rooms, attics and roofs. Must be able to climb ladders, must be able to communicate by telephone and computer, must have eye sight adequate to review engineering plans and must be able to discern color for review and monitoring of electronics systems. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
