Summary

This position is in NASA's Agency Pathways Intern Program (Multi-Center) which provides students with the opportunity to explore three of NASA's centers and gain meaningful developmental work experience.

The individuals assigned to this position will perform duties of a developmental nature, with oversight and guidance from experienced human resource professionals within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • This position is part of the NASA Pathways Intern Employment Program (IEP) which is a formal training program.
  • Participants completes assigned duties, tasks, readings, and developmental activities specified in the Program.
  • Participants receive formal periodic assessments of progress. You may be required to perform rotational assignments in various organizations.
  • The participant will be performing increasingly advanced developmental Human Resources business type administrative work.
  • Assignments are varied in nature in broad program areas such as employee engagement, employee development and organizational development.
  • The individual may also be assigned tasks supporting several Branches in HR such as staffing, classification, training, workforce planning, performance management, organization development, etc.

  • Enrolled/accepted in an accredited educational institution.
  • Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.9 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Must have ability to complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience.
  • Occasional travel may be required.


Qualifications

Starting GS grade levels are determined by education level:

GS-5: Enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and have completed at least 60 semester hours or at least 90 quarter hours of undergraduate education.

You must have an expected degree program completion date of August 27, 2021 or later to be eligible for this position, applicants who indicate a date prior to August 27, 2021 will be found ineligible. You must complete all required fields in your application to assist in determining your education level completed. Your education will be rated against the NASA development standards listed below. Failure to answer the application questions may result in loss of consideration.

Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must be accepted for enrollment or are currently enrolled pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.

The following major(s) are preferred: Business Administration, Business Management, Human Resources
Management, Industrial and Organizational Psychology or Organizational Development.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS BEING AMENDED TO ADD THE PRE-EMPLOYMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION REQUIREMENT. IF YOU ARE SELECTED, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ROTATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS AT THREE OF THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: GLENN RESEARCH CENTER (CLEVELAND, OHIO), NASA HEADQUARTERS (WASHINGTON, DC), JOHNSON SPACE CENTER (HOUSTON, TEXAS), KENNEDY SPACE CENTER (TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA), STENNIS SPACE CENTER (STENNIS SPACE CENTER, MISSISSIPPI). ADDITIONALLY, THIS POSITION REQUIRES YOU TO WORK A SPECIFIC SCHEDULES SUCH AS ONE SEMESTER AT SCHOOL FOLLOWED BY ONE SEMESTER WORKING AT NASA.

You must be able to work a minimum of three work tours prior to graduation. Work tours are defined as semesters/quarters. You will be expected to work the following schedule: Work tour #1 Spring 2020, Work tour #2 Summer 2020, Work tour #3 Summer 2021.

If selected, you are expected to report for duty January 21, 2020.

Position subject to pre-employment background investigation.

If hired, you may be promoted to higher grades based on the amount of education completed and acceptable
performance. However, promotions are not guaranteed.

You will serve a trial period for the duration of the Intern appointment.

Interns may be considered for conversion to a term or permanent appointment within 120 days of completing degree requirements provided they:

o Successfully completed an academic course of study with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.9 (on a 4.0 scale);
o Complete a minimum of 640 hours of work experience before completing degree requirements;
o Meet the qualification requirements for the position to which they are converted; and
o Maintain acceptable performance.

Eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that NASA will offer conversion.

At NASA, term appointments last from one to six years. If an Intern is converted to a term appointment, they may later be converted to a permanent appointment without competing.

If you are hired and successfully complete your internship, you may be converted to a Human Resources Specialist position with promotion potential to the GS-12 level.
