Summary

This is a bargaining unit position.
This is not a (drug) testing designated position (TDP).

This position is located at the Small Business Administration, Herndon National Guaranty Purchase Center in Herndon, Virginia.

In the GS-06 position, you assist loan specialists by carrying out routine and recurring actions involved in servicing, liquidating and purchasing direct, 504 program and guaranty loans. As a GS-07 assistant, you complete more complicated actions as directed.

Responsibilities

At the GS-06 level, your duties include but are not limited to:

1. Comparing present financial statements of the SBA and bank-serviced loans which are, or are considered, potential problems with previous statements to identify discrepancies and trends in financial data and compliance with loan terms and conditions;
2. Bringing to the attention of the supervisor and/or loan specialist any adverse change in financial condition or any serious violation of loan agreement and sending standard notification to borrower or bank on any serious violations noted as directed;
3. Contacting banks/borrowers on delinquent loans to ascertain factual sources of problems, making recommendations to approving staff on straightforward and commonly occurring circumstances and initiating remedial action as directed;
4. Responding to oral and written requests from banks, borrowers and other financial institutions;
5. Calling lenders who have reporting discrepancies concerning the delinquency of their SBA loan portfolio showing in liquidation;
6. Making inquiries through commonly used information sources (post office, public utilities companies, other governmental agencies, etc.) and search locator references such as the internet and cross-indexes to locate borrowers who may be evasive or cannot be found at the address of record;
7. Contacting borrowers by telephone to arrange appointments or reminding them of payment requirements in lieu of visits, if feasible;
8. Writing reports for each contact, describing results, listing amounts collected and furnishing information obtained about borrower's financial status for use by a loan;
9. Recommending on transferring case files into liquidation and, as necessary, initiating correspondence to Certified Development Companies and/or other SBA offices to transfer case files as necessary.

In addition to performing the above duties, the GS-07 loan servicing assistant completes more complicated actions as directed and also trains and assists less experienced personnel.

Qualifications

GS-06: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector), receiving and distributing loan documentation and packages; AND evaluating completeness of submitted packages by referring to established guidelines; AND corresponding with lenders on the phone or by email to answer questions and provide status updates.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector), performing a variety of servicing, collection and liquidation administrative duties applicable to loans such as preparing correspondence, data entry, filing and researching and retrieving loan information to include initiating and recommending liquidation actions and providing technical guidance to new/lower-graded employees.
