Summary

The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing senior level expertise in data governance and lifecycle data management for the Department of Justice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert knowledge of data science, data management and data analytics principles and tools to apply to enterprise program level oversight.
  • Oversee data architecture design of and integration into strategic and life cycle management for the agency.
  • Collaborate and build coalitions among senior leaders within and outside of the agency.
  • Provide expert technical and administrative advisement to lead the effective implementation of organizational change related to data management practices, enterprise tools and sharable solutions.
  • Facilitate the use and adoption of best practices in data curation and management within the agency.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Data Scientist at (GS-1501-15), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.

If you are a current government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Specialized Experience to Qualify for the GS-1501-15 level:
You must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following knowledge and skills level 1) Mastery experience and knowledge in designing, conducting, directing, interpreting complex data science, data analytics, data mining, data analysis, and data management legislation; 2) Mastery experience advising senior officials/decision makers on scientific data governance and lifecycle data management in support of the agency mission; 3) Experience collaborating with other entities/Agencies/Departments to successfully advance or achieve enterprise-level data curation, data management goals, and outcomes; and 4) Experience in exercising originality, independent judgment, and discretion in deciding recommendations of actions needed for implementation.

Basic Requirements:

A) A degree in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
