Summary

The Parentage and Support Branch is located in the Family Court Operations Division of the Superior Court and is responsible for the adjudication of cases involving the establishment of parentage and child support. In addition, the accurate and secure maintenance of records resulting from these activities. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall effective accomplishment of the mission assigned to the branch and the Family Court Operations Division.

Responsibilities

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
  • Ensures that all parentage and support filings and branch procedures comply with requirements of all relevant statutes, regulations, rules and business practices
  • Manages quality assurance and data entry functions in the court's case management system(s) for all new and subsequent filings in all parentage and support proceedings
  • Oversees and manages all financial functions relating to collection and processing of non-routine cash child support payments, alimony, bonds, restitution, wage withholding orders, notices to withhold income, copies and other fees; and uses the appropriate accounting practices to oversee the receipt, safeguarding, and accounting of such expenses
  • Manages the processing of all necessary documents associated with the issuance and execution of all bench warrants in parentage and support and domestic relations cases
  • Assists in planning, developing and administering programs designed to accomplish branch functions
  • Evaluates policies, procedures, and practices, and makes recommendations to the Family Court Director's Office for improvement
  • Evaluates subordinate supervisor(s) and reviews all employee evaluations; ensures training requirements are met and are adequate for employees to perform all duties
  • Collaborates with division-wide managers and other divisions of the D.C. Courts, as well as with other public and private agencies, as needed, to coordinate shared work-related programs and objectives of the Courts

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of experience in a general office, legal office or financial office (court or social services setting preferred), including a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a supervisor.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Family Court law, rules and procedures

The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.

Graduation from the DC Court's Management Training Program may be substituted for one (1) year of supervisory experience. You must provide documentation of your management training (i.e. copy of certificate) with your application.

This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive Federal civil service.

Please note there is a mandatory one year probationary period for all non-judicial new employees.
