Responsibilities

Performs one or more of the following duties: Fills gas can with proper mixture of gas/oil for motorboats and keeps them stocked. Removes hazardous objects both in and outside of reservoir. Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc. Moves heavy boxes or cartons by hand, hand-truck, or dolly. Opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears. Stacks boxes and cartons where directed. Using a shovel, digs ditches where grading and sloping is not required. Fills holes with dirt and levels bumps and low places using shovel, hand tamper, and rake. Runs hand and powered (walking type) lawnmowers, which do not require very heavy physical effort. Clears small trees and bushes using hatchet, handsaw, or clipper. Moves and arranges furniture as directed. May shovel snow sand or dirt from sidewalks and docks. Collects and empties garbage cans and maintains cleanliness of Marina property.

Performs one or more of the following duties: Washes watercraft and cleans Marina area of all debris. Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy (industrial-type) powered scrubbers and buffers. Vacuum cleans rugs, using heavy (industrial-type) vacuum cleaner. Power washes boats, walls, and bathhouse. Adjusts, cleans, and oils machines, and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them. Changes light bulbs and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions, using ladders and scaffolds. Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment. Cleans boathouse to include disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Maintains a stock of cleaning materials and equipment and notifies supervisor when more are needed.

Assists customers, which may include children under the age of 18, by giving instruction on basic boat handling, motor start/stop. Issues safety equipment, issues boats by setting them up, starting them, and making sure that they are operating properly. Provides instructions on safety and operation of watercraft to patrons and enforces safety regulations and ensure safety equipment fits properly. Operates the radio and loudspeaker system in accordance with regulations. Provides rescue service in emergencies.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge and skill sufficient to provide general knowledge of sailing, boating operations, safety, equipment and maintenance. Knowledge and skill to run lawnmowers use hand buffers, gator all-terrain vehicle, and power-washers. Knowledge and skill sufficient to read signs, and follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to work safely while moving light to heavy weight objects. Ability to learn first aid and CPR. Basic sailing knowledge and boat safety card preferred.

Responsibility: Works with specific oral and written instructions. Worker is called upon to use continual care, due to the nature of tools and equipment used, and the weight of objects handled. After receipt of instructions, worker may complete duties involving several distinct tasks or steps independently (e.g., washing and waxing a car; unloading supplies, moving them to specified locations and stacking them).

Physical Effort: Exerts moderately heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects; frequently lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects; and frequently pushing heavy furniture, loaded carts, etc. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance.

Working Conditions: Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in bad weather, involving exposure to extreme temperatures. Indoor working conditions may expose the worker to drafts, noise, dust and dirt and require standing on concrete floors for long periods. The tools, equipment, and heavy objects involved occasionally present chances of serious injury.
