Summary

The purpose of this is to serve as the primary point of contact between AGS and visitors to the Gallery who are considering a purchase of merchandise, and to promote a positive experience to visitors making a purchase.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will:
  • Offers products knowledge and suggests products that offer value to the customer.
  • Operates a multi functional point-of-sale (POS) terminal.
  • Distributes containers of merchandise arriving at the retail site.
  • Maintains floor stock levels by pulling merchandise from stockrooms to the sales floor.
  • Replenishes and straightens merchandise on the sales floor and maintains a visually-pleasing display.

Physical requirements: This position requires lifting and carrying merchandise and boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. This position requires continuous standing, walking and bending for a minimum of four (4) hours at a time.

The incumbent is an "emergency employee", required to work in emergency situations. This position is shift work which requires holiday, evening and weekend work.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess at least six months of full-time general work experience as a NF-2091-4 OR 1 year of education above the high school level. Interested candidates should also have a proven track record of exceptional customer service with outstanding accuracy and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of cash register functions and standard retail procedures regarding the handling of cash, check, and credit card transactions.
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic in order to handle cash, check, and credit card transactions and to balance the daily receipts against cash register.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to do basic troubleshooting with Windows/iPad register and peripherals; general knowledge of Windows/MAC OS.
  • Basic knowledge of Art History and of the Museum's collection in order to help them select products to purchase is desirable.
