Responsibilities

As a INTELLIGENCE OPERATIONS SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Serves as an Intelligence Operations Specialist for Combatant Commands, Service Headquarters, and Combined and Joint Task Forces.
  • The incumbent will place particular emphasis on the use of Improvised Weapon systems Explosive Devices (IEDs)and/or Weapons of Mass Destruction by threat groups within combat zones and/or MACOM(s), Afghanistan and Iraqglobally.
  • Performs all-source research and analysis, either from prior military or civilian experience and/or a solid knowledge of all-source intelligence analysis.
  • Maintains a firm understanding of the intelligence cycle: Tasking, Processing, Production, Exploitation, and Dissemination.
  • Coordinates with the U.S. Intelligence Community, COCOM Staffs and Headquarters conducting combat operations.
  • Responds to a wide range of requests for intelligence and background information from a diverse customer base to include the DTRA Director.
  • Possesses a comprehensive awareness of Afghanistan and Iraq regional dynamics to include a working knowledge of the regions militaries and capabilities to defeat the use of Improvised Threats.
  • Must be familiar with the structure, goals and operating procedures of terrorist and insurgent groups in the MACOM(s), Afghanistan and Iraq AOR.
  • Possess above average communication skills and the ability to function effectively both independently and as part of a combined team under prolonged crisis conditions or during extended training exercises or deployments,
  • Maintain abroad network of contacts and work relationships within the US national, military intelligence, as well as allied intelligence and security agencies.
  • Responsible for the routine publication of comprehensive in depth information papers highlighting issues of key importance to DTRA planners and decision makers.
  • Submits abbreviated intelligence articles on a daily basis to the DTRA Director and Staff in support of Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIR's).
  • Scans electronic intelligence databases for relevant information of regional interest.
  • Researches manual and automated databases, compiles and analyzes relevant information, and develops assessments of specific intelligence issues.
  • Manipulates intelligence data and delivers comprehensive briefings.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, and will typically be demonstrated by working at, or immediately below the level of the job being advertised, for a year or more. The previous work experience must clearly demonstrate the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience required for this position is:
  • Experience in all source analysis and exploitation techniques.
  • Experience conducting studies, analysis, and developing all source analytical products.
  • Experience developing written materials, public speaking or leading discussion and interacting with high level government staff.
  • Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

    Education

    Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

    Employees Serviced by DLA: Civilian Federal employees who receive human resources servicing through the Defense Logistics Agency DO NOT need to submit supporting documentation if applying through merit promotion.     This position is a Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS) position.

    Applicants selected from this announcement may be required to serve a two-year trial period.
