Summary

You will serve as a Program Support Specialist for the Small Business Administration (SBA), Office of Disaster Assistance (ODA), Damage Verification Center - DVC in Herndon, Virginia. This position assists the Supervisory Program Support Specialist to ensure that necessary internal support functions are accomplished in an efficient and timely manner, and that SBA and DVC support policies and procedures are followed.

Responsibilities

As a Program Support Specialist at the GS-0301-11, some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Assisting management in assessing the effectiveness of all the support functions performed in the department, e.g., budget, procurement, telecommunications, payroll, supply, accountable property, records management, reports and first line customer service for DVC staff.
  • Monitoring support functions with the goal of improving the efficiency of the function, and researching ways of improving customer service.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office in order to navigate through different software programs for generating word processing documents, spreadsheets, tables and formulas.
  • Assisting in drafting procedural guidelines and memoranda in any of the support functional areas.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • This is a Cadre position, which is a competitive service status position with a full-time seasonal work schedule. Although highly unlikely, depending on the level of disaster activity, you may be placed in a non-duty status if there is insufficient work. This would be extremely unusual and has not occurred in numerous years.

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Government travel credit card.
  • Favorable background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Credit Score must be at least 500.

Generally, time in Non-Pay status is not creditable towards the specialized experience requirement listed below.

Experience:
To receive credit, you must indicate the month and year as well as the average hours worked per week for each employer. Average work hours must be stated on the resume to quantify each period of work experience or that experience will not be credited toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.
You must address the specific specialized experience required for each grade level of this position on your resume or application or you will be rated "Ineligible" for that grade level.

GS-11: To qualify you must have at least 1 full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-09 level in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill, and ability to perform successfully in this position. This experience may have been gained in a Non-Federal service position. In addition, this Specialized Experience must demonstrate the following:

*Performing program support functions for an office/organization in the areas of payroll, accountable property and records management;
*Preparing and editing a variety of documents such as reports, spreadsheets, forms, tables, charts, graphs and correspondence; AND
*Researching appropriate regulations and guidance related to program support functions to resolve issues or improve operating procedures.

In addition to the above Specialized Experience applicants must indicate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

GS-11:
Must have a doctorate or equivalent graduate degree in a related field, such as business administration, or 3 full years of related progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
