THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

**INDEFINITE-MAY LEAD TO PERMANENT**

This position is located at the at Joint Base Andrews, MD . Its purpose is to act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. The work involves the total maintenance of complex, high performance military aircraft,ranging from multi-purpose heavy, multi-engine transports to the most modern sophisticated fighters and bombers.

Responsibilities

As a(n) AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG885210/12, you will:
Directs, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Work is performed in complex working conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Works with, coordinates and oversees the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics. Coordinates and oversees the work of journey level workers in other trades working simultaneously on the assigned aircraft. Reviews, trains and prepares to perform battle damage assessment/repair. Participates in mission generation/regeneration operations. Directs multiple specialists in preparing aircraft for combat operations. Expedites aircraft operations to include concurrent servicing, hot pit refueling and/or combat turns or integrated combat turns. Performs preflight, postflight, thru flight, periodic, isochronal, phase, hourly and special inspections, as well as servicing, defueling, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

• NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military rank and assignment in the District of Columbia Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Minimum Rank: E-4/SrA
• Maximum Rank: E-7/MSgt

• Permanent Change of Station (PCS): PCS not authorized
• Relocation Incentive: Incentive not authorized
• Selected Reserve Incentive Program: Acceptance of this position will cause termination of Federal bonuses pursuant to respective Selected Reserve Incentive Programs (SRIP).
• THIS IS AN INDEFINITE-MAY LEAD TO PERMANENT POSITION. Indefinite positions are entitled to all benefits of a permanent employee except tenure.
• MANAGEMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO SELECT AT EITHER THE WG-10 OR WG-12 LEVEL.

Qualifications

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the DC Air National Guard.
MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: You must meet the minimum military rank as specified in this announcement. The National Guard's full-time support program requires that all military technicians are members of the National Guard and are appointed to full-time positions which correspond to their military assignments. Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within One (1) year of appointment.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least Eighteen (18) months' experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
