Responsibilities

FG-11 Duties:

Serves as a technical specialist responsible for soliciting, acquiring, collecting, evaluating, compiling and selecting appropriate technical navigational and related operational data for inclusion in aeronautical products and publications. Will be involved with formal and on-the-job training in the preparation of Aeronautical Information for dissemination in publications in order to gain skills and knowledge for progression to the next grade level. Typical assignments may include the following: develops, maintains and revises aeronautical data contained in products/publications; ensures appropriate application of Federal Aviation Regulations, specifications, standards and criteria; resolves data discrepancies and notifies manager of unresolved problems and work issues; assists in the development of Notices to Airmen; analyzes, evaluates and verifies quality of printed products; establishes and maintains effective communications with the aviation industry. Performs other duties as assigned.

FG-12 Duties:

Responsible for one or more major subject matter areas of higher complexity, and is the final authority for the technical content of publications to which the material is directed. Recognized as a subject matter expert in assigned areas of responsibilities. Typical assignments may include the following: develops long-range plans and arrangements to obtain vital information required to fulfill the data needs of assigned subject matter areas; development, maintenance and revision of terminal/en-route instrument flight procedures; design/development of aeronautical charts (visual, en-route & terminal) and related publications; coordination/integration of IFPs in the NAS; collect, evaluate and verify aeronautical data; or automated applications used by the organization; ensures appropriate application of Federal Aviation Regulations, specifications, standards and criteria; provides advice/guidance to less experienced staff; performs reviews of basic, nonprocedural work performed by lower level personnel; perform leadership functions for small projects/teams; identifying/resolving problems; and assists in initiating Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs). Performs other duties as assigned.

FG-13 Duties:

Serves as an advisor to management on matters that involve both critical technical and operational issues; development, maintenance and revision of terminal/en-route instrument flight procedures (IFPs); design/development of aeronautical charts (visual, en-route & terminal) and related publications; coordination/integration of IFPs in the NAS; collect, evaluate and verify aeronautical data; or automated applications used by the organization ensures appropriate application of Federal Aviation Regulations, specifications, standards and criteria; performs cross check validation and analysis of aeronautical information data, documents, files or other media as requested in support of aeronautical information analysis; ensures Aeronautical Information Services products are coordinated and integrated in the NAS; initiates Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs); advises on the further development of automated data processing tools by identifying requirements, recommending priorities and suggesting adaptations to the system; performs acceptance testing on legacy application rewrites and new software applications; identifies potential issues and proposes recommendations for preventive action; assures that activities are efficiently carried out and that program objectives are effectively accomplished (end of cycle processing, integrity checks, etc.); resolves complex verification and coordination problems between all functional areas of Aeronautical Information Services and its user agencies/organizations and ensures cartographic requirements are met through the use of computer assisted mapping technology and map publication software.

Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.

TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE FG-11 LEVEL, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the FG-9 level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE may include but not limited to developing, maintaining and revising of terminal/en-route instrument flight procedures; aeronautical data contained in products/publications; ensuring appropriate application of Federal Aviation Regulations, specifications, standards and criteria; resolves data discrepancies; assists in the development of Notices to Airmen; analyzes, evaluates and verifies quality of printed products; experience in the development of Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP), using any of the following systems: Instrument Procedures Development Systems (IPDS), Instrument Approach Procedures Automation (IAPA), and Terminal Area Route Generations and Traffic Simulations (TARGETS).

OR

EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. (Transcripts Required)

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE may include but not limited to: experience as a technical specialist for one or more of the following program areas development, maintenance and revision of terminal/en-route instrument flight procedures (IFPs); collect, evaluate, and verify aeronautical data; initiating Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS); coordination/integration of IFPs into the NAS; identify & resolve problems; experience preforming reviews of basic, nonprocedural work regarding IFPs/NOTAMs; collect, interpret, and consolidate aeronautical data to develop and/or revise IFPs; or automated applications used by the organization; experience in development of Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP), working with Instrument Procedures Development Systems (IPDS), Instrument Approach Procedures Automation (IAPA), and Terminal Area Route Generations and Traffic Simulations (TARGETS).

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE may include but not limited to: Experience as a technical specialist for one or more of the following program areas: development, maintenance and revision of terminal/en-route Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs); Ensuring IFPs are coordinated and integrated into the NAS and provide for safe operation of aircraft; collecting, evaluating and verifying aeronautical data; Experience providing subject matter guidance on automation applications as used by Aeronautical Information Services; ensuring the construction and publication of all aeronautical charts/publications that support commercial, military and general aviation meet operational requirements; Initiate Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs); experience in development of Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP), working with Instrument Procedures Development Systems (IPDS), Instrument Approach Procedures Automation (IAPA) and, Terminal Area Route Generations and Traffic Simulations (TARGETS).
