Job Details

AEI's Critical Threats Project (CTP) produces detailed, objective analysis and forecasting on America's core national security challenges and concrete recommendations to address them. AEI seeks an analyst to conduct independent research, lead a team of interns, and support foreign policy scholars in advancing CTP's mission.

The analyst will conduct independent research, analysis, and writing related to al Qaeda and other Salafi-jihadi groups' activities in the Arabian Peninsula and North, East, and West Africa. Research responsibilities also include the global al Qaeda network and tracking al Qaeda affiliates in and around the Indian Subcontinent. The analyst will also be responsible for: selecting, training, and developing interns; providing feedback on technological innovation projects; and providing other research and administrative support as required.

The ideal candidate works well on agile, collaborative, hard-working teams, can reprioritize to changing research and publication needs, and possesses excellent research, writing, and organizational skills. Demonstrated interest in foreign and defense policy is required, and proficiency in Arabic (reading and listening) is strongly preferred. Successful candidates will have strong critical thinking and technological instincts and will be receptive to feedback.

AEI offers a stimulating and harmonious work environment and excellent benefits. Qualified applicants should submit an online application, complete with a resume, cover letter, transcripts, and 500-word writing sample on a topic related to the position.
