The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's role is to oversee various aspects of the energy industry, including transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil. We also analyze proposals to build liquefied natural gas terminals and interstate natural gas pipelines and license hydropower projects. To help support the modernization of the electric system here in the U.S., we are focusing on issues associated with a smarter grid.

The Office of Energy Market Regulation (OEMR) is looking for dynamic candidates to join its team at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). This position is located in the Office of Energy Market Regulation (OEMR)/Division of Electric Power Regulation, West. OEMR West analyzes electric filings submitted by electric utilities to ensure that rates, terms and conditions of service are just and reasonable. The major duties for a Financial Analyst are :
  • Examines, analyzes and evaluates financial statements contained in applications for the purpose of determining whether or not such applications conform to the requirements of the Commission's regulations, and determines whether they are reasonable, fair and consistent with Commission regulatory standards.
  • Prepares data requests, based on the review/analysis of filings made to the Commission, which contain a discussion of financial and regulatory policy issues as well as related recommendations.
  • Analyzes corporate organization arrangements and different classes of stock to assess whether such can convey control over the day to day operations of a company.
  • Collects and analyzes comprehensive data from a financial data base, reference materials, and utility reports on the accounting and financial aspects of earnings and inter-corporate relationships of individual utilities for the purpose of computing financial ratios.
  • Participates in broad, comprehensive regulatory policy studies, the results of which have industry-wide impact. These studies may also result in the development of new guidelines, standards, and bodies of knowledge which will assist senior Office management in developing Office positions on issues in the electric power industry.
  • Conducts other special studies and research relating to rulemakings, or other regulatory issues .
  • Analyzes mergers and other corporate dispositions and acquisitions of Commission-jurisdictional facilities to determine if they result in adverse effects on competition, rates or regulation, or result in an inappropriate cross-subsidization of utility assets.
