You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

Responsibilities

  • You will install commercial locking devices (e.g., combination safes, file cabinets, electric security systems, door locks, panic hardware) in wood or metal doors.
  • You will read drawings and plans to lay out locksmith work.
  • You will operate portable power tools (e.g., drills, routers, nail guns, electric hammers, skill saws, portable table saws, circular saws, sanders, joiners) for woodworking and carpentry jobs.

  • The incumbent must be a certified/licensed Locksmith.
  • This position may be job sited. The employee may be required to report for work at a location other than a permanently assigned location.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance in order to perform the locksmith duties.
  • The employee may be recalled to duty.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Constructing and repairing wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close fit and structural soundness such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, and interior and exterior trim; 2) Interpreting blueprints to determine the layout and work sequences and types of lumber or special related; and 3) Performing preventative maintenance of locking mechanism on all security type containers, such as safes, vaults and combination file cabinets; 4) Replacing locks or broken parts of locks components.

Physical Effort:
Physical effort is moderate to heavy and includes; prolonged periods of standing, climbing ladders, and scaffolds, working in cramped awkward positions, lifting and binding while using hand and power tools. Weight lifted does not usually exceed 90 pounds; however, he/she may be required to lift more than 90 pounds on occasion.

Working Conditions:
Work on ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and where parts may be in hard-to-reach places. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Requiring frequent lifting, carrying and setting up of tools, and equipment and parts that weigh over 50 lbs. Work will progress through all weather conditions. It is the incumbent's responsibility to work effectively and safely during these times.
