Job Announcement

Serves as Theatre Technician (Facility Attendant II) for performances and events in the Alden Theatre at the McLean Community Center. Operates theatre lighting systems; theatre sound systems, including live sound reinforcement and various types of equipment for effects playback, recording, and editing; and theatre rigging systems, including operation of computerized motorized electric winch system. Performs preventive and emergency maintenance of all theatre equipment and facilities including lighting, sound, rigging, scene shop equipment and tools, and stage deck repair and maintenance. Constructs stage scenery, props and special effects using a variety of tools of the carpentry and electrical trades. Work hours will vary and will include evenings and weekends. Work hours will be determined based on performance schedules.

The assigned functional area is in professional technical theatre.

Illustrative Duties

  • Supervises and participates in the operation of several public park facilities, a major recreational facility, or operates a theater technical specialty (e.g., sound, lighting, stage rigging and set construction);
  • Prepares daily reports on facility activities;
  • Inspects facilities and adjacent areas for unusual conditions and directs new, on-going and preventive maintenance activities;
  • Monitors the operation and public activity during regular hours of operation and for special events;
  • Recommends improvements in facilities or their operations;
  • Oversees setup, operation and maintenance of equipment;
  • Ensures compliance with applicable County, state and federal regulations;;
  • Operates technical theatrical equipment such as sound, lighting or stage rigging, paints scenes, constructs and assembles stage sets and props;
  • Directs set-up and take-down of equipment for special events;
  • Reviews and assigns daily workloads and evaluates performance.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of a variety of supplies, materials, tools, equipment and practices appropriate to job assignment;
  • Skill in use of tools, materials and equipment pertinent to job assignment;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public;
  • May require ability to swim, lift, or climb appropriate to job assignment.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus four years of work experience appropriate to job assignment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Four or more years of experience in professional technical theatre. Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions involved with theatre work.

SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a check of the Child Protective Services Registry to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A moderate amount of physical activity is required for this position including: lifting up to 50 pounds (scenery pieces, rigging equipment, lighting equipment, lumber, and sound equipment), stooping, climbing ladders to 20 feet in height, working on catwalks above 36 feet in height, and working on personnel lifts up to 35 feet in height. Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting, bending, working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and working on catwalks, ladders and personnel lifts. Ability to operate motorized rigging and stage equipment. Physical requirements can be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
