The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) is a comprehensive organization working to improve and enhance the lives of the county's 1.1 million residents. DPWES designs, implements, and maintains capital projects, while protecting our natural resources. The Fairfax County Streetlight Engineering Team of DPWES is seeking an individual to meet the description below. As a member of the streetlight engineering team, provides streetlight review of development plans, administration, coordination, and implementation of the Capital Facilities portion of the Fairfax County Streetlight Program to include: serving as a point of contact for daily coordination with Land Development Services (LDS), developers, and electric utility companies on the installation of streetlights. Participates in the reviews and preparation of streetlight designs to ensure most cost-effective layout is provided with Board approved criteria, Fairfax County Public Facilities Manual (PFM) regulations, and standards and engineering practices. Assists the Senior Engineer and Branch Chief in providing technical expertise on streetlight issues and on new lighting technologies. Utilizes the Streetlights GIS layer using ArcGIS to edit and view data. Maintains and updates streetlight computer information to track encumbrances, expenditures, payments and to provide current project status. Prepares correspondence, addresses citizen issues and concerns, reviews and provides input on requests to waive PFM Streetlight requirements. Arranges and conducts citizen meetings and participates in public hearings related to streetlight issues. Conducts field work as necessary to coordinate development streetlight projects with utility companies and to verify plan information. Assists the Senior Engineer on other administration duties and performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the civil or electrical engineering field, plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the civil or electrical engineering field. Note: This position may not exceed 1,560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs, but are not eligible to earn leave or receive holiday pay.

Qualifications:
Project management experience in the design and construction of building projects. Experience in areas such as planning, design, budget, schedule, quality control, and construction administration. Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience with presentations to various audiences. Information technology skills including use of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. Proven experience in collaboration and teambuilding with various groups.
